The blue whales, the largest animal on our planet has a heart the size of a volkswagens. deaths and disease caused by polluted coastal waters costs the global economy 12.8 billion dollars a year. the annual econmic impact of hepatitis from tainted seafood alone is 7.2 billion dollars a year. tropical coral reefs border the shores of 109 countries, the majority of which are among the worlds least developed. there are about 4,000 coral reef fish species worldwide. as many as 100 million sharks are killed every year. people will usually catch the shark and cut them and throw them back in the ocean alive still so they can bleed to death. illegal longline fishing which involves lines up to 80 miles long with thousands of baited hooks kills over 300,000 seabirds, including 100,000 albatrosses. more oil reaches the oceans each year as a result of leaking automobiles and non point sources than was spilled in. over the past decade an averge of 600,000 barrels of oil a year has been accidentally spilled from ships. plastic waste kills up to million seabirds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fsh every year. there is so much gold in the oceans that everyone on earth could have 9 pounds of gold to them selfs.
