whales: there are over 40 differnet types of whales. whales ca nlive 45 to 60 years. they eat small fish, squid, zooplankton, and phytoplankton. they use beautiful lyrical sounds to communicate.
dolphins: there are over 40 species of dolphins. some get over 30 feet and some weigh over 19,000 lbs. they can live anywhere between 40 years and 80. they eat small fish, squid, and crustaceans. they live in tropical areas throughout the world.
sea lion: they live in cooler waters of the north pacific. males get to about 2,000 lbs and over 10 feet, females get to about 600 lbs and over 7 feet. they have yellow-brown fur. they eat fish, cephalopods, squid, octopus, harbour seal, fur seal, ringed seal, and sea otters.
elephant seal: some can be found in california and baja california and others can be found in the antartic waters. elephant seals are the largest of all seals. they can get over 20 feet and weigh over 8,800 lbs. they can live 9 to 22 years. they are carnivores.
guadalupe fur seal: found by the pacific ocean off the coast of california and mexico. they have thick black or brown coat with ruff lighter tan fur around their necks. they have small ears and a split tail fin. males get to about 7 feet and weigh 415 lbs, females get to about 5 feet and weigh about 108 lbs.
harbor seal: they live in the atlantic and pacific ocean. their usually brown, tan, or gray. they grow to about 6 feet and weigh about 290 lbs. there are over 5 million to 6 million individuals. they eat flounder, perch, octopus, squid, and shrimp.
manatee: they are gray animals. they do not eat meat they are plant-eating animals. they get to about 10 feet long and weigh between 800 lbs to 1,200 lbs. you can find them anywhere where its warm, they are usually swimming in rivers, or canals. they can live for 60 years sometimes longer.
polar bear: they live in the arctic. they mainly eat seals sometimes fish. they dig holes under the snow to use for a home.

sea worms: they form hard shelled tubes around their bodys. they have a wide variety of brightly colored worms. they look like chewed gum. 5 types of sea worms the christmas tree worm grows to about 5 inches shaped like a christmas tree. they are found mainly in the caribbean. magnificent feather duster which is the largest duster in the world. they are brown and white. grow to about 4 inches long. the large-eyes feather duster they are found in the atlantic ocean. they grow up to 5 inches. they are orange-red to reddish-brown. they are usually found in maine. orange fireworm can grow to about 6 inches. they are found under rocks and coral. red-rim flatworm can grow from 1 to 2 inches they can be any color you can think of.
jellyfish: jellyfish are not actully fish. they have tentacles and oral arms. there are over 200 speceies of jellyfish. they live from the caribbean to the artic. jellyfish have been reported to be the size of washing machines. they eat microscopic animals, fish, larvae, and other jellyfish.
seanettle jellyfish: they live on the east and west coast of north america and into the atlantic ocean and pacific ocean. they have small whitish dots and reddish-brown stripes. they can grow from 6 to 8 inches. they mainly eat plankton and zooplankton.
sea anemones: they attach them selves to rocks or coral. they can travel 3 to 4 inches in a hour. they eat fish, shrimp, isopods, amphipods, and plankton. they grow anywhere between 5 centimeters and 17 centimeters. they can be all colors and there are 11 differnet types.
aggregating anemore: they can grow 2 to 5 centimeters. there have a greenish-colored body and pink tentacles. they can be found anywhere between alaska to baja california. they live in rocky shores and bays. they eat isopods, small animals, and algae.

black turban snail: they are black with white in the inside. they are dome shaped and smooth except of several weak spiral cords. you can find them anywhere between vancouver, british columbia, to baja california. they live on or near rocks.
conchs: conchs can be every colorful. they feed on fine plant mattter in warm waters. they live in tropical shallow waters. people say if you put your ear next to a conch shell you can hear the ocean.
channeled dog whelk: they live in rocky and muddy areas along the intertidal zone. they eat mussels and barnacles by drilling holes in their shells, injecting enzyme, and then siphoning up the liguid remains.
chiton: they have an 8 piece shell. they travel by cling to rocks. they eat algae, radula (hard teeth). they are very slggish. there are more than 800 different types, they can live for 25 years and grow to 1/3 to 12 inches.
limpets: only eat at night. they eat algae off of rocks. when they move they leave a trail of mucus. they have no eyes. they can be light-brown, grey-brown, dark brown, white, or green. they can grow 2 to 10 centimeters long.
mussels: they can grow up to 150mm to 6 inches. they can be any color but most or dark blue, brown, or black. they live in both saltwater and freshwater. they stick together, if one moves left they all move left.
northern striped dog winkle: they eat barnacles, oysters, and mussels. they live in rocky areas on the west coast.
octopus: have 8 arms and 2 rows of suctions cups of each arm. there are over 100 differnent types. can grow to 23 feet and weigh over 400 lbs. if they loose an arm it will grow back. they eat fish, crabs, shrimp, turtles, and snails.
sea hare: they eat algae all day and night.
slippershells: they live in the atlantic ocean coast. they are white and flattened. they attach them selves to hard objects.
whelks: they have axial and spiral shells. they are found of the atlantic seaboard 600 feet underwater. they can grow up to 4 inches.

crabs and lobsters

hermit crab: they live in deep oceans and near shore. most of them live along coastal areas. they replace their shells. they are scavengers they feed on algea and small invertebrates.
barnacles: small shelled animals. they attach themselves to near shore stationary and moblie objects. they build up on the bottom of boats once attached they send signals to invite other barnacles.
blue banded hermit crab: fairly small with blue bands on their legs. live along southern california.
dungeness: popular in commerical trade. they live along the pacific northwest. they have a red shell and white pincers.
fidder: small and semiterrestrail crabs. they live in tropical beaches but they can live in year-round environments. males have one long claw and females have 2 standard sized claws. they eat vegetatin and algea.
giant hermit crab: the largest crab in the caribbean sea. they grow 5 to 8 inches. their left claw is slightly larger then the right.
horseshoe crab: they live on the coast of delaware. they have hard curved shells. they can go for years without eating and can live in high tempertures.
mangrove tree crab: they are brown to a olive-green color. their eyes are in the front corners of the carapace. the claws have black hairs on the tips and they are sharp.
purple shore crab: live under stones and amoung seaweed. they live in alaska all the way to baja california. males grow to about 2 inches and females grow to about a half of inch. the shell is smooth usually purple but it can be greenish yellow or reddish brown.
spiny lobster: they have no backbone with a hard shell. males are called a cock and females are called hen or chicken. they have 4 claws, horns on their eyes. they can grow up to 1.5 inches. they live in the atlantic ocean, carubbean sea, and the gulf of mexico. they can be blue-green, blue, red, yellow, red-orange, and white.
squat lobster: they live in the california coast. they look more like hermit crabs. they leave their claws exposed, and do not have a shell. they hide under rocks.
speckled crab: they live in northest florida and mexico. they are brown with white spots with a wide shell. they live shallow waters. they hind in sand when their on land and get scared.
spider crab: they have thick rounded bodies. they have stiff hairs down their spines and on their long thin legs. they eat dead flesh. they live in the atlantic and pacific ocean in rocky areas. they are brown or yellow with white claws.
striped shore crab: they live in rocky areas along oregon and california. they only grow up to 2 or 3 inches. only males are striped. offen differnet colors of green.
