hermit crab: they live in deep oceans and near shore. most of them live along coastal areas. they replace their shells. they are scavengers they feed on algea and small invertebrates.
barnacles: small shelled animals. they attach themselves to near shore stationary and moblie objects. they build up on the bottom of boats once attached they send signals to invite other barnacles.
blue banded hermit crab: fairly small with blue bands on their legs. live along southern california.
dungeness: popular in commerical trade. they live along the pacific northwest. they have a red shell and white pincers.
fidder: small and semiterrestrail crabs. they live in tropical beaches but they can live in year-round environments. males have one long claw and females have 2 standard sized claws. they eat vegetatin and algea.
giant hermit crab: the largest crab in the caribbean sea. they grow 5 to 8 inches. their left claw is slightly larger then the right.
horseshoe crab: they live on the coast of delaware. they have hard curved shells. they can go for years without eating and can live in high tempertures.
mangrove tree crab: they are brown to a olive-green color. their eyes are in the front corners of the carapace. the claws have black hairs on the tips and they are sharp.
purple shore crab: live under stones and amoung seaweed. they live in alaska all the way to baja california. males grow to about 2 inches and females grow to about a half of inch. the shell is smooth usually purple but it can be greenish yellow or reddish brown.
spiny lobster: they have no backbone with a hard shell. males are called a cock and females are called hen or chicken. they have 4 claws, horns on their eyes. they can grow up to 1.5 inches. they live in the atlantic ocean, carubbean sea, and the gulf of mexico. they can be blue-green, blue, red, yellow, red-orange, and white.
squat lobster: they live in the california coast. they look more like hermit crabs. they leave their claws exposed, and do not have a shell. they hide under rocks.
speckled crab: they live in northest florida and mexico. they are brown with white spots with a wide shell. they live shallow waters. they hind in sand when their on land and get scared.
spider crab: they have thick rounded bodies. they have stiff hairs down their spines and on their long thin legs. they eat dead flesh. they live in the atlantic and pacific ocean in rocky areas. they are brown or yellow with white claws.
striped shore crab: they live in rocky areas along oregon and california. they only grow up to 2 or 3 inches. only males are striped. offen differnet colors of green.
